Member Agreement:
Members who have access to the Member Area SHALL NOT attempt to gain access or "hack" their way into areas that are outside of their assigned status (i.e. Active, Retired, Other, or Honorary).
The Email address of the members is for personal use. You MAY NOT distribute this information to other individuals, or companies who are NOT members of the web site.
Information of a sensitive or confidential nature SHALL NOT be given or distributed either through email or other means to individuals who do not have appropriate Department of Justice clearance. Additionally you SHALL not release any information contained in the member area to individuals who are not LBPOA Members or members of this web site. All content is the property of the Long Beach Police Officers Association unless otherwise noted. The only EXCEPTION to this would be officer safety information. You MAY release or share this information with other peace officers.
Violations of this policy may result in immediate suspension to access the Member Area and will be reviewed by the Board of Directors for final decision for status or removal from the Member Area.
We respect your right to privacy. We regard our members' privacy as one of our most important values. We want you to know how we protect member information and what choices you have about its use.
We believe our Privacy Policy should give you confidence whenever you visit the Long Beach Police Officers Web Site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year.
We outline our Privacy Policy below.
We are committed to protecting your personal privacy. Our Principles of Privacy summarize and clarify that commitment: how we safeguard your privacy, how we treat personal information, and what choices you have. We understand that for you to take full advantage of the benefits of this interactive medium, we must do everything we can to ensure that your privacy is secure.
(1) We do not give out your Name, Email address, telephone number, or any other personal information you have provided us, unless you authorize us to do so.
When you join the Member Area, we ask you for your name, Email Address, contact telephone number, last 4 digits of your social security number, and work information. All of which we use to verify your identity. We do not distribute any information about our members - including names, addresses, email addresses, or other data - to individuals, companies, or organizations outside of the Long Beach Police Officers Association.
*The LBPOA will not give your telephone number or Email Address, to anyone outside the web site, except with your permission (i.e. If you sign up for the Calibre Press Street Survival Newsline). If someone contacts us for your email address we will forward their request to you and let you decide to contact the person. All Members Email address are listed in the Member Area and are secured and protected. We also will not make members email address available for bulk mailings by individuals or companys. If someone approaches the POA with something for the membership which we feel would benifit all the members or may interest the members, the POA may choose to email this information directly to you by us, but will not supply the individual or company with your email address (these types of mailings are rare).
When you sign up for the Member Area and fill out the application or other forms your internet browser tells us what browser you are using, the version, and whether you use Macintosh(TM) or Windows(TM) software -- to help us fit the technology of the internet to our members. i.e. if a large number of our members are using a specific browser with certain capabilities we may implement those capabilities on the web site. This is done by almost every site you visit and submit information to on the internet.
We have two exceptions to these policies: We will release specific information about your account only to comply with valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena or court order, or in special cases such as a physical threat to you or others.
We provide you with the opportunity to update or correct your contact information that we have on file.
COOKIE USE:
Our site uses "Cookies". A cookie is a small text file that is written to your hard drive. This file does NO damage. It does NOT collect information about you or what is on your computer. We have 2 types of cookies on our site.
The first is in the Members Area. When you log in it writes a cookie which grants you access to the member area. While you are online the cookie verifies your identity and level of access to the Member Area. Every time you select a different area in the Member Area the cookie checks to see if you are authorized and have the correct level of access to that area and if you do, it grants access. If not the web site notifies you that you do not have access. When you close your browser the cookie is erased.
The second area we use cookies is the Member Forums. This is an area where members can read and post messages. The Member Forum writes a cookie to your hard drive to remember who you are so when you come back it notifies you which messages you have read and which ones you have not. You also have a choice to write a permanent cookie so the Member Forum can remember your password on future visits.
(2) We use secure technology and restrictions in order to safeguard your personal information. (i.e. Member names and Email Address)
We use state-of-the-art technology to keep your personal information including your name and email address -- as secure as possible. We also have put in place protection control systems designed to ensure that your personal data remain safe and private from the general public.**
These safeguards however do not prevent another LBPOA Web Site Member from viewing your Name and Email address since all members have access to this area. **The ONLY personal information kept on the web site is your name, rank, current assignment and email address. The last 4 digits of your social security number are destroyed after your identity is verified.
We additionally restrict certain information from other members of the web site. The Member area is broken down into 4 categories:
Active – Active Long Beach Police Officers
Retired – Retired Long Beach Police Officers
Other – Reserve Long Beach Police Officers, Department Employees, Misc. Members (may be a city employee or someone who the board of directors has granted permission to)
Honorary – Honorary Member of the LBPOA
There may be times when we completely restrict or deny access to one or more of the above groups to a specific areas of the Member Area. This usually relates to sensitive Law Enforcement information or information the Board of Directors wants to convey to only 1 group of the membership.
